Paddling Pools for Pooches (and Chefs) in the Heatwave

Waterfoot, Rossendale, Lancashire

We had a proper heatwave through the valley on Sunday 26th June so had to get a bit creative.

Enter the paddling pools

It started as a kindness to cool our four-legged regulars. If you're a dog wearing a full fur coat in 30-degree heat, you deserve some help. So the paddling pools came out, and within about five minutes the beer garden had turned into a canine spa. Some took to it straight away, while others looked at us like we were personally responsible for the weather. Either way, every one of them left cooler than they arrived.

But it wasn't just the dogs

If you've ever worked a Sunday service in a pub kitchen during a heatwave, you'll know it's not a place for the faint-hearted. So our chefs - the very people keeping your Sunday roasts arriving hot and beautiful - decided fair was fair and got themselves in the paddling pools too.

For anyone who's not been in with their four-legged friend before, please do. We're properly dog-friendly, water bowls always on the go and our regulars love saying hello.
