TALES FROM THE BOOT & SHOE

The Boot and Shoe 2026 finalists for Best Restaurant or Gastro Pub 2026!! by the Lancashire Telegraph

The Winner of Our Worst Dad Joke Competition

Waterfoot, Rossendale, Lancashire

Right. Put your groan-face on. It's time to reveal the winner of our Worst Dad Joke Competition.

The judges

We handed the very serious business of judging over to our two favourite critics, Mia and Maisie. After lengthy deliberations (and a lot of hysterical laughter), they picked their winner.

The winning joke from Shaun Donohue:

“What's a pig's favourite karate move?

A PORK CHOP.”

Simple. Devastating. Shaun, a well-earned Sunday dinner for four is heading your way. Winner winner, chicken dinner (x4).

Honourable mentions to a few crackers:

Rosie Schofield

“Did you hear about the restaurant on the moon? Great food, just no atmosphere.”

Luci Jade Heaps

“The 3 most popular owls in the UK: Barn owl, Snowy owl, tea towel.”

Nula Jackson

“Why did dad bring a ladder to the pub? Because he heard the drinks were on the house.”

Diane Hodgson

“Why did the Yorkshire pudding break up with the Sunday roast? It thought it was getting battered.”

Karen King

“Why did the bicycle fall over? Because it was two tired.”

Amelia & Evie (via Kelly Holt)

“Where do apes sleep? In apricots.”

David Moss

“I saw a bloke wearing one shoe. I said, have you lost a shoe, mate? He said, no - I've found one.”

Thank you (and please don't give up your day jobs)

A bit of fun for Father's Day - a good dad joke.
